Labor Day Weekend Camping

After spending Saturday of Labor Day Weekend in Hunter and Stillwater, we loaded up Sunday morning and headed to Fort Supply Lake (near Woodward, Okla.). I think it had been at least 10 years since I had been to the lake. My family used to camp there when I was in high school and college. This was the first time we had camped in my parent’s new fifth wheel. It was nice to not have to “rough it”.

We arrived at the campsite just in time for lunch. Soon after lunch we headed down to the beach to swim and play in the sand. Katelyn who had been scared of the pool all summer long ran right into the lake. We had to cut her play time short though, because she was in need of a nap. While she was napping, Mimi and Hunter enjoyed building sand castles together.

Once Katelyn was awake we visited another beach. Both of the kids loved it! Maybe playing in a lake was like playing in a huge mud puddle to them? I am hoping this means that next summer they will be a little more interested in going to the pool. We were glad to have the beach to ourselves. At one point, Katelyn took of her swim suit, because Hunter had removed his rash guard. Then a few minutes later, Hunter dropped his swimming trunks and pottied on the beach!

Hunter was disappointed that there was a burn band and that we couldn’t make a campfire. Luckily you could still use the grill, so Sunday evening we made s’mores. While we were trying to roast the marshmallows Katelyn kept sneaking chocolate and marshmallows. That girl has got a sweet tooth! We finally had to cut her off.

Hunter had been asking to sleep in a tent for awhile, so we borrowed Lynde’s tent. Once Jonathan aired up our queen size air mattress there was little room left in the tent. Hunter and him did manage to squeeze into the tent. Jonathan didn’t have to share for long though. Before midnight Hunter woke up cold and wanting “Mommy”. He ended up spending the rest of the night in the camper.

Monday morning was beautiful! After a summer of 100+ temperatures, we woke up to a cool calm morning that made us hopeful that that fall was around the corner. It was even nice enough we were able to have a picnic breakfast.

After breakfast, we fished for awhile, but only caught one little fish. Sunday night we caught a huge turtle.

We had a blast on our first family camping trip. Thanks Mimi and Papa for inviting us! The kids were natural campers, so we are thinking of purchasing camping gear so we can go again.

I made a slideshow of the trip. You can view the video below. If for some reason, it doesn't load then click here to view it.
