Goodbye Thumb

Hunter has quit sucking his thumb!   A couple of his friends had stopped in the last few months and we had talked about him stopping when he was ready.  Monday, July 2 was the day he made decision to say bye to the thumb.

A picture of the first time we found him sucking his thumb.  He was 2 months old and had lost his pacifier.

Thumb sucking really didn’t become a habitat until we took away the pacifier at 10 months.  Apparently he was more attached to it then we thought.  I don’t think it helped that I had recently stopped nursing him.

We are so proud of him! The first few days he wore a glove a lot during the day to help him remember not to suck it. A week later and he has pretty much dropped the habit. We haven’t seen him suck it in at least four days. He has been wearing a glove at night, but tonight he wanted to try sleeping without one.

As a fellow family of finger/thumb suckers, I know how exciting this milestone is - for the kid AND the parent. Congratulatins, Hiseys! How will you celebrate? Hazel got to polish her finger nails, and Zeke got to take the family for some frozen yogurt. ;)
